Botoșani nature features rare black stork and protected alder grove
The Botoșani region in Romania features significant natural landmarks and rare wildlife sightings. A rare black stork was recently observed in a wild setting along the Prut River, captured in footage by Alin Scripniciuc.
Additionally, the Horlăceni Alder Grove, located in the Șendriceni commune, serves as a national interest forest reserve. The area is primarily protected for its population of black alder (Alnus glutinosa), a water-loving tree species. The reserve covers approximately 5 hectares, including a 0.7-hectare core area of black alder surrounded by a protective buffer zone. The site also holds historical significance, as the nearby village of Horlăceni has been documented since around the year 1400.
