Botoșani police announce bribe attempt after receiving €100 envelope

The Botoșani County Police (IPJ Botoșani) is ranked among Romania's top three counties for officers refusing bribes between 2024 and the present, said Chief Commissioner Tudor Costin at a press conference. Costin stressed the unit’s focus on integrity and warned that any attempt to influence officers with money will be prosecuted.

A recent incident involved traffic police receiving, by mail, a complaint about an aggressive driver accompanied by a €100 banknote. The purpose of the note is unclear; the police immediately reported the case to the local prosecutor’s office for investigation. The authorities reiterated that bribery is a criminal offence and citizens will be held accountable.
