Botond Miklós Rázsi takes temporary leadership of National Teachers' Guild
Botond Miklós Rázsi, director of the Szilágyi Erzsébet Gymnasium in Eger, has assumed the temporary leadership of the National Teachers' Guild (Nemzeti Pedagógus Kar) following the resignation of Péter Horváth. Rázsi, a former Fidesz deputy mayor, stated that he has not received any political instructions and maintains that the organization functions as a professional body rather than a political one.
Regarding recent teacher protests, Rázsi clarified that while the Guild's role is to collect and represent professional opinions rather than incite demonstrations, he did not prevent his own staff from participating in protests at his school. He noted that the Guild's future remains uncertain, pending clarification of the government's intentions toward the organization.
New elections for the presidency have been rescheduled from November to February to allow for greater clarity regarding the Ministry of Education's stance. Rázsi has committed to the role until February but has not yet decided whether he will seek a long-term presidency.
