Bots drive 91% of DDR5 memory traffic at certain retailers

Automated bots are significantly impacting the RAM market, accounting for up to 91% of traffic on certain DDR5 memory pages at a single retailer. According to research from DataDome, this represents a ratio of approximately ten automated requests for every one real human buyer, a sharp increase from a 6:1 ratio reported in March.

These bots use specific parameters to bypass cached inventory data, targeting manufacturers such as Micron and Apacer, as well as DIMM suppliers like Amphenol and TE Connectivity. This surge in automated activity occurs amid rising component costs; for instance, a 32GB DDR5-6000 kit has seen prices rise from an average of $72 a year ago to approximately $392.

Industry experts warn of continued pressure on the market. Apacer's CEO has noted potential drops in DRAM deliveries to independent module manufacturers, while TrendForce predicts further increases in DRAM contract prices in the third quarter.
