Botswana advances digital payments and cyber resilience amid Vision 2036
Absa Bank Botswana’s MobiTap mobile payment platform lets merchants accept card‑less payments on smartphones, using secure contactless technology and PIN verification. The service, launched with a partnership with Orange Money, aims to broaden financial inclusion for SMEs and the unbanked, and plans to add more mobile network operators within the year.
Liquid Intelligent Technologies highlights that Botswana’s rapid digitisation – driven by extensive fibre rollout, projects like the Gaborone Metro Ring and the Northern Botswana Fibre Highway, and the national Vision 2036 agenda – must be matched with strong cyber‑security. Its Secure360 portfolio integrates governance, threat intelligence and incident response, addressing AI‑driven cyber risks that accompany cloud and AI adoption across the country.
