Botswana and EU launch energy and conservation initiatives

Botswana and the European Union have launched two major strategic initiatives aimed at energy transition and environmental conservation.

The ASPIRE Botswana Programme was announced by Cabinet Minister of Minerals and Energy Bogolo Joy Kenewendo. This partnership seeks to accelerate the country’s transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy sector by increasing renewable energy generation, improving energy efficiency, and mobilizing investment. The programme also focuses on institutional strengthening and skills development to build human capacity for the emerging clean energy economy.

Simultaneously, the European Union is supporting conservation efforts at the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park through a co-financed project under the NaturAfrica Global Gateway programme. Announced by EU Ambassador Petra Pereyra, the project aims to strengthen the park’s operational capacity and protect biodiversity while supporting sustainable development for surrounding communities. Immediate priorities include restoring the park’s operational integrity and enhancing management systems.
