Botswana economic entities report mixed financial results

The Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) has returned to profitability, reporting a P20.5 million profit after tax for the financial year ending June 2026. This marks a significant turnaround from a P167.7 million loss in the previous year. The recovery was driven by an 11% increase in total company income to P485.4 million, largely due to a rise in dividend income to P239 million. Additionally, expected credit losses decreased by approximately 62% to P44.7 million. BDC plans to invest P1.4 billion over the next two years.

Separately, the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) reported that it facilitated over P110 billion in investment and export value over the last 14 financial years. For the 2025/26 period, total investment reached P14.882 billion, exceeding targets. While Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reached P5.52 billion and export revenue rose to P7.325 billion, the agency faced challenges in employment. BITC created 4,918 jobs during the year, falling short of its 13,600 target, a gap attributed to global economic conditions.
