Botswana inflation falls to 9.4% in July 2026

Botswana's headline inflation decreased to 9.4% in July 2026, down from 10.7% in June 2026. Despite this decline, the rate remains above the medium-term target range of 3% to 6% and is significantly higher than the 1.1% recorded in July 2025.

The reduction was primarily driven by a fall in domestic fuel prices effective July 7, 2026, which lowered headline inflation by 2.3 percentage points and caused a deceleration in the Transport category. While inflation for imported tradeables dropped from 17.9% to 13.3% due to lower fuel costs, inflation for non-tradeables rose from 3.9% to 5.6%, influenced by base effects from electricity tariff reductions in July 2025.
