Botswana institutions sign MoUs for rehabilitation and STEM growth

Botswana is seeing increased institutional collaboration through new agreements aimed at social rehabilitation and economic development.

The Botswana Prison Service (BPS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Boitekanelo College to enhance prisoner rehabilitation and staff development. The partnership will allow students in nursing and rehabilitation disciplines to conduct practical training within correctional facilities, providing inmates with psychosocial support and counseling. BPS Commissioner Anthony Mokento stated the move supports the service’s transition toward a correctional model focused on preparing offenders for reintegration into society.

In the economic sector, the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) and the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) have entered a five-year MoU. This agreement aims to accelerate the nation’s STEM economy by linking university research with investment opportunities. The partnership focuses on entrepreneurship, mentorship for student startups, and packaging STEM-related opportunities for investors to drive regional innovation and job creation.
