Botswana prepares to host major international sporting events

Botswana is intensifying preparations to host two significant international sporting gatherings. The TAFISA World Congress is scheduled to take place in Gaborone from October 17 to 21, 2027. This five-day event is expected to host approximately 400 participants from 100 countries, focusing on 'Sport for All' and its role in community development, public policy, and international cooperation.

Additionally, the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) has begun organizing for the 2028 African Senior Athletics Championships. Following the successful staging of the Debswana World Athletics Relays, the BAA is working to establish a Local Organising Committee and a skeletal secretariat. Acting president Oabona Theetso emphasized that the championships should be a national project, aiming for broad involvement across the country’s athletics community.
