Botswana targets economic growth through business reforms and sustainability

The Botswana government has pledged to implement regulatory reforms and digitalization to improve the ease of doing business. During the National Business Conference 2026, Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship Tiroeaone Ntsima announced plans to review existing regulations to remove duplicative requirements and develop a digital one-stop shop for business registration, licensing, and investor services.

Ntsima emphasized the importance of local businesses investing in technology and skills to participate in supply chains and leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) for regional export opportunities. He stressed that reforms must result in tangible improvements for the private sector.

In a related economic push, the Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) is advocating for sustainability as a primary driver for economic growth. BTO Acting CEO Ogopotse Baoleki stated that responsible tourism practices are essential to protecting the nation’s biodiversity and cultural heritage while fostering investment. The upcoming Botswana Sustainability Week 2026 aims to align private sector leadership with national development priorities across tourism, energy, and industry.
