Bouadel residents protest commercial water exploitation in Taounate
Residents of the Bouadel area in Morocco's Taounate province have launched protests against a project intended to exploit local spring water for commercial purposes. Protesters expressed concerns regarding the potential impact of the project on local water resources, agricultural activities, and the livelihoods of the community.
Human rights organizations and local support committees have expressed solidarity with the protesters. The Federation of Women's Rights Associations has called for a suspension of the commercial exploitation until independent scientific assessments can verify the project's impact on water sustainability and local needs. They also demanded transparency regarding technical data, environmental studies, and the specific licenses granted for the project.
Local groups are calling on authorities, including the Sebou Basin Agency, to disclose the volume of water to be extracted and to ensure that decisions regarding natural resources are made through transparent dialogue with the affected population. There are also reports of citizens being summoned for questioning following the peaceful demonstrations.
