Bouchra El Kadiri elected Vice President of International Chess Federation

Bouchra El Kadiri, President of the Royal Moroccan Chess Federation, has been elected Vice President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). The election took place during the 97th General Assembly held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, which saw participation from representatives of 194 member nations.

El Kadiri ran as part of the presidential slate led by the newly elected FIDE President, Timur Taylanov. Taylanov secured the presidency with 110 votes, defeating German candidate Vadim Renstein, who received 85 votes in the second round of voting.

El Kadiri’s election is noted as a significant milestone for Moroccan and African sports, aiming to increase the presence of the African continent and women in international chess decision-making processes. Her role is expected to provide a leadership voice for the Arab and African regions within the FIDE Executive Board to support development programs and continental championships.
