Bouda Fortress in Pardubice Region Reopens Historic Entrance After Multi‑Million Czech Crown Renovation

The Bouda fortress, a former Czechoslovak border fortification built to defend against Nazi Germany, has completed a major restoration of its entrance bunker KS‑22. Funded by the Pardubice Region with a total investment of 28 million crowns, the work restored original 1938‑era interiors, added new plasterwork, de‑humidification, replica armor, period doors, and multimedia displays that simulate wartime conditions. Visitors can now explore a one‑hour guided route featuring a short film, holographic projections, and interactive periscopes that illustrate the fortress’s defensive operations. The renovation also includes plans for a narrow‑gauge rail line through the underground tunnels, with future phases aiming to expand visitor access throughout the kilometre‑long network of corridors. The site, one of only five completed border forts in the Czech Republic, is expected to boost regional tourism this season.
