African nations commence 2026-2027 academic year with new reforms

The 2026-2027 academic year has commenced across several African nations, marked by various administrative and pedagogical shifts. In Togo, authorities are emphasizing educational transformation and investing in youth, while Benin has opened applications for technical agricultural high schools.

In Burkina Faso, the administrative reopening is underway with a focus on vocational and technical training. Minister Moumouni Zoungrana highlighted a new policy of positive discrimination toward scientific and technical disciplines, including new scholarships for professional cycles. Similarly, in the Yatenga province, educators are working to implement ongoing educational reforms.

Chad and Côte d'Ivoire report effective returns to classrooms, with specific focus on examination classes in Chad. In Tunisia, the Ministry of Education is deploying a unified pedagogical kit for preschool education in partnership with UNICEF to harmonize teaching methods across public and traditional settings. This reform also includes the adaptation of scientific manuals into Braille for visually impaired students and the reactivation of the 'Joussour' digital support platform.
