Bournemouth and Poole cancel fireworks due to wildfire risk
Fireworks displays in Bournemouth and Poole have been cancelled due to high wildfire risks across Dorset. BCP Council cited ongoing dry conditions and the need to prevent additional pressure on emergency services. Officials noted that even though displays are launched from the sea, the risk of a stray spark starting a fire is too high under current conditions.
The decision follows a major wildfire in the New Forest that began near Ringwood on 9 August. Firefighters from 93 stations have dedicated nearly 10,000 hours to battling the blaze, which covers approximately 1.6 square kilometers. While the Bournemouth and Poole displays are cancelled, Weymouth Town Council has decided to proceed with its scheduled fireworks display.
