Bournemouth residents oppose Jamei Mosque expansion plans

Residents in the Winton suburb of Bournemouth are opposing proposals to expand the Jamei Mosque. The mosque, which currently accommodates up to 600 people, seeks to convert its roof space into a first-floor extension to include a meeting room and dedicated assembly spaces for women and children.

Local homeowners have raised several grievances regarding the existing facility, citing significant disruptions to daily life. Reported issues include noise from amplified microphones used during worship, pre-dawn prayers waking residents, and the sound of vehicles driving over a gravel car park late at night.

Traffic and parking have also become major points of contention. Residents report that worshippers frequently park on double yellow lines, near junctions, and across private driveways, leading to verbal confrontations between locals and attendees. Opponents of the expansion argue that increasing the mosque's capacity will exacerbate these parking issues and create safety concerns on the narrow surrounding roads.
