Bouvesse-Quirieu: Association works to revive medieval French village
The association Imagine Quirieu is working to revive the former medieval village of Bouvesse-Quirieu in the Isère region of France. Located on a limestone hill 300 meters above the Rhône, the site was once a fortified stronghold.
While much of the fortified town and its bastion have disappeared, several historical elements remain, including a 16th-century chapel, stone walls, and a partially standing manor house. The village's main paved street, la grande charrière, which once connected the village to river trade on the Rhône, now leads to a field of wild orchids.
Patrick Perraudin, president of Imagine Quirieu, has been dedicated to the site for thirty years. The last resident of the village departed in 1914.
