Bouygues Telecom Adds €5 Cancellation Fee and Highlights Faster VoLTE Calls

Bouygues Telecom, France's third‑largest mobile operator, announced that a €5 (about $5.70) termination fee will now apply to all of its previously fee‑free no‑commitment mobile plans and MVNO partnerships. The charge, first introduced on a limited basis in June, has been extended to cover the operator's entire subscriber base of more than 30 million customers, a move tied to cost‑management efforts following its participation in the €20.35 billion acquisition of SFR.

In parallel, Bouygues Telecom emphasized its continued investment in voice‑over‑LTE (VoLTE) technology. The company reports that its network now establishes calls in roughly two seconds, a significant improvement over the eight‑second setup typical of older 3G circuits, and supports high‑definition voice and seamless handover to Wi‑Fi calling. These enhancements aim to improve call quality and maintain data connectivity during voice sessions for French users.

Both developments reflect Bouygues Telecom’s strategy to strengthen its market position in a highly competitive French mobile sector.
