Bovec Municipality seeks funds to renovate Mangart Pass mountain hut

The Municipality of Bovec is seeking new funding to renovate the popular mountain hut located at the Mangart Pass, which has been closed for over a year due to deterioration. The estimated cost for the comprehensive renovation is approximately 1.45 million euros.

Following an unsuccessful bid in February for a revitalization tender for public infrastructure in border areas, the municipality is preparing a new application for a 2027 tender, with a submission deadline of September 18. Officials stated that the renovation depends on the success of this tender, though they will seek alternative funding sources if necessary.

The project, designed by the Ljubljana-based firm Tloris, includes a complete roof replacement, the installation of solar modules, and a new facade combining stone and wood. Plans also involve expanding the facility with a northern extension, a separate basement structure for storage and sanitation, and a new terrace. The renovated attic is expected to provide 30 beds. The hut is situated at an altitude of 1,906 meters within the Triglav National Park and is managed by the Alpine Association Bovec.
