Bovine brucellosis regulations and vaccination mandates in Brazil
Under the National Program for the Control and Eradication of Brucellosis and Tuberculosis (PNCEBT) established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), specific regulations govern the management of bovine brucellosis in Brazil.
Vaccination is mandatory for female cattle and buffalo between 3 and 8 months of age, using either the B19 or RB51 vaccines. Diagnosis involves screening tests (AAT) and confirmation tests (SAL, 2-ME). Regulations require that females over 24 months and males of any age undergo examination. Animals testing positive must be isolated and slaughtered within 30 days. Vaccination must be performed exclusively by a veterinarian registered with the state's official service.
