Bowling Green community initiatives address housing and park funding
In Bowling Green, the non-profit group BG Save Our Neighborhoods (BG SONG) is hosting an event titled ‘Growing Home: Opening Doors to Affordable Housing’ on October 23. The meeting aims to discuss the establishment of a community land trust, a model where a non-profit owns the land while individuals purchase the homes to lower costs. BG SONG received a $15,000 grant from the John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation to support this initiative.
Separately, the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department is seeking voter approval for a 2.95-mill levy to maintain nearly 400 acres of parkland and various programs. The proposal seeks to renew an existing 2-mill levy and add an additional 0.95 mills for a five-year duration. Officials noted that the department has operated with a deficit budget for the last three years and requires increased funding to maintain facilities, trails, and community programming.
