Bowling Green State University marching band becomes largest in US

The Bowling Green State University Falcon Marching Band has reached a record 600 members, making it the largest collegiate marching band in the United States. This milestone marks the fifth consecutive year of growth for the ensemble.

Since 2022, the band has grown more than sixfold from its previous size of 90 members. For the 2026-27 season, the group added over 120 students. According to Jon Waters, director of marching and athletic bands, the growth reflects the student experience and pride at the university. Notably, more than 80% of the members are non-music majors.

The band has received invitations to prestigious events, including the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland, and the 2027 Rose Parade in Pasadena, California.
