Boxer Edgar Berlanga arrested in Florida on battery charges

Puerto Rican super middleweight boxer Edgar Berlanga was arrested in Polk County, Florida, on October 26, 2026. The Lakeland Police Department charged the 29-year-old with two offenses stemming from an alleged incident on October 18.

Berlanga faces a first-degree misdemeanor battery charge and a second-degree felony aggravated battery charge. If convicted of the felony charge, he could face up to 15 years in prison. He appeared in the Bartow Courthouse on Tuesday, where a judge set his bail at $16,000. Berlanga has since been released following the payment of the bond, and his arraignment is scheduled for November 17, 2026.
