Boxer Emiliano Caballero killed in shooting in Toluca

Mexican boxer Emiliano Caballero, 23, was shot and killed inside his home in Toluca, Estado de México, during the early hours of Friday, September 25.

According to reports, several armed men arrived at the residence in three vehicles and forcibly entered the property. The assailants reportedly asked for an individual known as ‘El Mesitas’. Despite being told that the person did not live at the address, the attackers opened fire. Approximately 30 spent 7.62 caliber shell casings were found at the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest Caballero may have been a victim of mistaken identity. The Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de México (FGJEM) has opened an investigation to identify those responsible, though no arrests have been reported. Caballero, who held a professional boxing record of four wins in four fights, was also a law student nearing the completion of his degree.
