Boxer Gloria Peritore honored in Licata celebration
On Sunday, 9 August 2026, the municipal headquarters in Piazza Carmine, Licata, will host a ceremony to honor local boxing champion Gloria Peritore. The event, announced by Mayor Angelo Balsamo and Sports Assessor Salvatore Burgio, will begin at 10 a.m. with an introduction by Professor Francesco Pira, followed by a gala at 9 p.m. Peritore, born in Licata in 1988, holds the European Boxing Union title and the WBC International super‑bantamweight crown. She is coached by her husband, Manuele Raini. The celebration also highlights her earlier achievements in kickboxing, including three professional world titles, a 2014 World Championship gold in Spain, five consecutive Oktagon victories, and historic firsts as the first Italian woman to win a Bellator Kickboxing bout in the United States and the first Italian to contest a Bellator world title. Peritore founded The Shadow Project, an association promoting gender equality and violence prevention through sport, and received a CONI award in 2026.
