Boxer Lee Reeves Hospitalized After Knockout, Community Raises Funds

Irish southpaw Lee Reeves, a 31‑year‑old boxing champion from Limerick, was knocked out by Gary Cully during a bout at Dublin’s 3Arena on Saturday. He was rushed to hospital, underwent surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma. A GoFundMe campaign set up by former trainer Jonathan O’Brien quickly raised more than €60,000, later reaching €87,000 to cover his medical and recovery costs.

Limerick Treaty Suicide Prevention, for which Reeves serves as a national ambassador, organised a community vigil at Harvey’s Quay to show support for him and his family. Promoter Frank Warren later confirmed that Reeves is “making progress” and that his condition remains stable. The story has drawn attention to the risks faced by boxers and the solidarity of the local community.
