Assam floods kill 98, affect 1.55 million across 13 districts
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority reported that the death toll from the floods rose to 98. A total of 1,55,849 people – about 1.55 million – remain affected in 13 districts, 464 villages and 33 revenue circles.
Golaghat district is the worst‑hit with 58,750 people affected, followed by Sivasagar (48,286) and Jorhat (25,259). The Dhansiri River at Golaghat and Numaligarh, and the Kushiyara River in Sribhumi, were flowing above danger levels.
Relief operations include 73 camps sheltering 10,326 displaced persons and 18 distribution centres assisting 6,881 people. About 10,748.64 ha of cropland remain submerged and more than 47,000 livestock have been impacted. Damage to housing includes 126 homes fully destroyed and 344 partially damaged. A total of 219 rescue teams, eight boats and medical units have been deployed.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged national‑level solutions, while climate analysts linked the severity to intensified monsoon systems and broader climate change.
