Boxing Federation of India unveils LA 2028 Olympic qualification pathway

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has announced a new four-stage selection policy designed to maximize the number of Indian boxers qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Under the new criteria, medallists from the 2026 Asian Games will receive direct entry into the 2027 World Boxing Championships in Kazakhstan, which serves as the first official qualifying event for the Olympics. For weight categories where India does not secure an Asian Games medal, or for categories not included in the 2026 Asian Games, gold medallists from the 10th Elite National Championships will be designated as the main entries.

The full qualification pathway approved by the International Olympic Committee includes the 2027 World Boxing Championships, followed by the Asian Qualifier in China, and two World Qualifying Tournaments in 2028. The BFI stated that the policy aims to ensure fairness and transparency throughout the selection process.
