Boy dies from rabies in Bình Phước after contact with unvaccinated dog

A 10-year-old boy has died from rabies in Bù Gia Mập, Bình Phước province. The child exhibited symptoms including fear of water, nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to wind and sound before passing away on August 8, 2026.

Epidemiological investigations revealed the family had acquired a four-month-old dog in early March 2026 that had not been vaccinated against rabies. The dog fell ill and died in late July 2026. The boy had frequently played with, kissed, and slept with the animal. While it is unclear if the child was bitten or scratched, health authorities are investigating the incident.
