Darkwave duo Boy Harsher has released Get Mean, their debut album with Atlantic Records and their first studio album in seven years. The project marks a significant personal and musical shift for longtime creative and romantic partners Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller.
The album explores themes of grief, heartbreak, and redemption following the end of the duo's romantic relationship, as well as familial loss and rootlessness. Musically, Get Mean moves away from the claustrophobic, industrial bunker sound of previous releases like Yr Body Is Nothing and Careful, instead embracing a more sweeping 80s synth-pop palette and alt-disco-pop landscape.
To support the release, the band has shared a visual for the track “Faulty,” a song that explores the uncertainty of a relationship ending through danceable rhythms and ethereal vocals.
