Boy with special needs rescued after being abandoned on Bulgarian road in extreme heat

A 17‑year‑old boy with special needs, Suny Mihaylov, was removed from a regional bus in Dolna Mitropolia, Bulgaria, after police discovered his travel card had expired. The driver left the boy on a roadside in temperatures reaching 37‑38 °C, and the teenager began walking toward his home in Gorna Mitropolia. Police launched an intensive search, covering difficult terrain and water bodies, and found him unharmed but frightened after several hours. He was taken to a police vehicle and returned to his family.

The incident is now being referred to the prosecutor’s office. The driver claims the boy chose to leave the bus, while the father alleges the driver acted unlawfully. Authorities will decide whether criminal charges are warranted.
