Boyko Borisov accuses Democratic Bulgaria of breaching budget deficit law

GERB leader Boyko Borisov criticised the opposition coalition Democratic Bulgaria (DB) for refusing to sign the complaints that GERB and "We Continue the Change" submitted to Bulgaria’s Constitutional Court over the state budget. Borisov said the law requires the parliamentary budget deficit to stay at or below 3 %, and that the current budget exceeds this limit, violating both national law and the EU public‑finance agreement, placing Bulgaria in a “penalty procedure”.

He urged right‑wing parties to work together, noting that the issue of a joint presidential candidate for GERB will surface in September and that a strong presidential ticket is needed given the country’s “very complex situation”. DB representative Ivaylo Mirchev countered that the budget problems are political rather than constitutional.
