Boyko Borisov criticizes fuel prices and economic policy in Bulgaria

GERB leader Boyko Borisov has issued a sharp critique of the current administration under President Rumen Radev, focusing on rising energy costs and fiscal management. Borisov highlighted a significant increase in fuel prices, noting that diesel currently costs 2.19 euros compared to 0.92 euros in 2020. He argued that these increases are unjustified given that Bulgaria possesses a state-owned refinery and receives oil from sources such as Azerbaijan.

Borisov also raised concerns regarding the agreement with the Turkish company Botaş, describing it as a previously hidden contract that has left Bulgaria owing hundreds of millions of dollars. He warned of rising costs for gas and electricity, suggesting that gas prices have already increased by 34%.

On the fiscal front, the GERB leader criticized the government's budget management, disputing projections regarding the budget deficit. He characterized the administration's approach as an attempt to justify high spending through inaccurate figures. Additionally, Borisov commented on the state of the Black Sea tourism sector, describing the recent summer season as “broken” and failing to reach its potential.
