Boyko Borisov slams Bulgarian government on Ukraine declaration and budget

GERM party leader Boyko Borisov criticised the Bulgarian cabinet for sending contradictory messages to European partners about a joint declaration in support of Ukraine. He said the foreign minister’s explanations only deepened the confusion and that the lack of public disclosure of commitments was unacceptable.

Borisov also attacked the draft state budget, describing it as a “budget of fraud”. He argued that revenues were underestimated despite high inflation and warned that a deficit of up to 3 % would be accepted without political opposition, which he called detrimental to the country. The leader added that the administration’s staffing, including the number of deputy ministers, was unnecessarily expanding.

Ahead of the upcoming presidential election, Borisov urged each party to nominate its own candidate and questioned the organisation of the vote after recent electoral‑code changes. He reiterated his comment that the unsigned Kyiv declaration “resembles the Botash contract” and called the government’s handling of the issue a “serious political schizophrenia”.
