Bozhidar Saraboyukov sets Bulgarian long jump record ahead of European Championships

Bulgarian long jumper Bozhidar Saraboyukov broke his own national record at the Memorial "Yordanka Arizanova" tournament in Plovdiv, leaping 8.49 metres. The mark improved on his previous best of 8.45 m and moved him to 33rd place on the all‑time world list, behind Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou (8.61 m) and Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer (8.51 m).

Saraboyukov said, “I have been waiting for this record all summer; the work finally paid off and I’m grateful to perform it in front of a Bulgarian crowd.” The athlete, who had been disappointed by a fourth‑place finish at the Diamond League meeting in Monaco, said the result gives him confidence heading into the European Championships in Birmingham next month.

The series of six jumps all exceeded eight metres, with attempts of 8.25 m, 8.30 m, 8.02 m, 8.36 m and the record 8.49 m. He plans to compete at the national championships in two weeks, though he kept his event choices private.
