bp awards Halliburton contract for Bumerangue appraisal in Brazil

bp has awarded an integrated drilling and evaluation services contract to Halliburton to appraise its Bumerangue discovery in the Santos Basin, offshore Brazil. The appraisal campaign is expected to begin late this year or in early 2027.

The Bumerangue discovery, located approximately 404 km from Rio de Janeiro in 2,372 meters of water, is estimated to contain about 8 billion barrels of liquids in place. The reservoir consists of high-quality pre-salt carbonate with a significant hydrocarbon column, including oil and liquids-rich gas-condensate.

Halliburton will utilize an integrated execution model to consolidate multiple drilling services, incorporating its LOGIX automation and remote-operations system. This approach aims to link well planning, drilling execution, and reservoir evaluation to provide real-time data for operational decision-making and to optimize the assessment of the reservoir's dynamic characteristics.
