BP begins gas production from Fayoum 4 well in Egypt

BP has commenced production from the Fayoum 4 well in Egypt’s West Nile Delta, delivering approximately 80 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day to the domestic market. The project was brought forward by roughly two years compared to its original schedule through the use of innovative engineering, including drilling a sidetrack to access Messinian reservoir layers at depths of 3,000 metres.

By utilizing the existing Giza-Fayoum pipeline and West Nile Delta processing facilities, BP avoided the need for new subsea infrastructure. This production boost comes as Egypt seeks to reverse declining domestic gas levels that have previously necessitated large-scale LNG imports.

BP operates the West Nile Delta facilities with an 82.75% interest, while Harbour Energy holds the remaining 17.25%. Additionally, BP has indicated plans to invest approximately $1.5 billion in Egyptian natural gas exploration and development during the 2026/27 fiscal year.
