BP launches Atlantis expansion, adding 10,000 boe/d in US Gulf

BP has started production of the Atlantis Major Facility Expansion in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, about 150 miles south of New Orleans. The project adds two new subsea water‑injection wells, new subsea trees and topside pumps.

The expansion is expected to deliver roughly 10,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day of gross peak annualised production, of which about 5,000 boe/d is net to BP. It extends the life of the Atlantis field, which has been producing for nearly two decades, and provides additional water‑injection capacity for future development.

BP holds a 56 % working interest in the field, with Woodside Energy owning the remaining 44 %. The startup was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, and is part of BP’s plan to bring ten major projects online globally by 2027. Recent sanctions of the Kaskida and Tiber developments are projected to add about 160,000 barrels per day of new offshore capacity by 2030.
