BP plans to cut 700 jobs globally

British oil major BP announced a restructuring that will eliminate roughly 700 office positions worldwide, representing about 8% of its production and operations workforce. The cuts target support and senior management roles rather than front‑line staff and are intended to simplify the company’s structure, reduce debt and improve financial performance as it refocuses on oil and gas.

The plan follows BP’s recent strategic shift under CEO Meg O'Neill, who replaced the previous leadership in April and reorganised the business into two main segments – upstream and downstream. While the spokesperson did not confirm the exact number of layoffs, the company indicated the reductions will affect about 8% of its roughly 8,500 positions in the production and operations divisions.

In Poland, the broader labour market has seen over 3,000 workers affected by mass redundancies in June, with the largest reductions in the Greater Poland, Silesian and Lesser Poland regions, according to local reports.
