BPA exposure linked to reduced insulin sensitivity in new study
Researchers at California Polytechnic State University have found that Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical commonly used in plastic water bottles and food containers, may reduce insulin sensitivity. In a study involving 40 healthy adults, participants receiving doses of BPA considered safe by current standards showed a diminished response to insulin.
Lead author Todd Hagobian suggested that current exposure limits set by the EPA should be reconsidered. While the FDA maintains that low levels of BPA in food packaging are safe, other bodies like the European Commission have proposed stricter bans on the substance due to its potential to disrupt hormones.
