BPCL to enter quick commerce market with grocery delivery

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is expanding its business model to compete in the quick commerce market. The government-owned oil marketing company plans to deliver groceries and household essentials alongside LPG cylinders by converting selected LPG agencies into ‘dark stores’.

Customers can order groceries, FMCG products, and consumer durables through the ‘Hello BPCL’ app. A pilot project for this service is currently underway in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. While initial results are described as promising, current sales volumes have not yet met expectations.

In addition to grocery delivery, BPCL is working to transform its petrol pumps into lifestyle hubs by upgrading ‘In & Out’ retail stores with cafes and convenience services. The company also intends to launch its own payment gateway integrated into its mobile app to facilitate direct transactions at fuel stations.
