Indonesia launches 100 GWp solar power program in Bali FAST-MOVING
President Prabowo Subianto has officially launched a massive 100 GWp solar power plant (PLTS) program in Bali, aiming to achieve energy independence and support net zero emission targets by 2060. The President has set an ambitious timeline, challenging the energy sector to complete the project within three years, though he noted a target of two years could earn rewards for the cabinet. The program is expected to be implemented in stages, with an initial target of 30 GWp in 2026 and the decommissioning of 13 GW of diesel power plants.
The initiative requires an estimated investment of approximately Rp1,140 trillion (US$73 billion). Economic projections suggest the program could create 5.5 million jobs and save the state up to Rp73.9 trillion annually in energy subsidies. Environmentally, the transition is projected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 140 million tons of CO2 per year.
In related regulatory developments, the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission XI has approved Sarjito as the Executive Head of Supervision for the Strategic Mineral and Commodity Exchange (BMKS) under the Financial Services Authority (OJK) for the 2026–2031 period. Additionally, PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) has announced its leadership structure to oversee the governance of strategic natural resource exports.
