BPJS Kesehatan addresses PBI membership deactivations
BPJS Kesehatan has responded to concerns regarding the deactivation of several Penerima Bantuan Iuran (PBI) health insurance cards. The agency clarified that these changes are not unilateral terminations but are the result of national data updates using the Single Social and Economic Data (DTSEN) from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
Under current regulations, PBI subsidies are reserved for citizens in deciles 1 through 5, representing the most vulnerable populations. Participants identified in deciles 6 through 10 are automatically removed from the subsidy program. However, individuals who believe their economic status has been misclassified have a 90-day grace period to update their data through local village offices, sub-district offices, or the local Social Services Department.
For those who have been deactivated but require urgent medical treatment, an emergency reactivation process is available. According to Ministry of Social Affairs Regulation No. 3 of 2026, participants can seek reactivation if they were deactivated within the last six months or are currently in need of medical services. This requires presenting a medical necessity letter to the Social Services Department for verification and subsequent activation by BPJS Kesehatan.
