BPMA and Conrad Asia evaluate gas potential in Aceh blocks
The Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA) and Conrad Asia Ltd are conducting technical evaluations to determine the exploration status of gas structures in the Singkil and Meulaboh blocks off the southwest coast of Aceh.
During a workshop in Jakarta, officials discussed using historical data from the Singkil-1 and Meulaboh-1 wells as references. The Singkil-1 well, drilled in 1973, recorded a gas flow of 10.06 MMSCFD, while the Meulaboh-1 well, drilled in 1970, recorded 6.7 MMSCFD. However, BPMA noted that these historical figures are insufficient to confirm current producible resource volumes.
BPMA Head Mawardi Nur emphasized that further systematic studies are required to assess reservoir characteristics, resource size, and economic feasibility before moving toward a Plan of Development (POD). The goal is to accelerate the evaluation of Aceh's hydrocarbon potential to support national energy security.
