BPS releases inaugural 2026 housing statistics showing declining backlog

The Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) has released its inaugural 2026 Housing Statistics publication, providing critical data to support national housing policies. The report highlights a decrease in two key housing backlog indicators.

Backlog 1, which measures home ownership needs, decreased from 9.64 million to 9.29 million people. Backlog 2, representing families living in homes that do not meet decent living standards, fell from 18.77 million to 18.01 million people. The data also indicates an increase in access to decent housing between 2025 and 2026.

The publication further maps the profile of recipients of the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP). Findings show that men access these benefits more frequently than women, and private sector employees represent the group with the highest access. The highest number of FLPP applicants are in the 4 million to 6 million IDR income bracket, though there is a growing trend of applicants in the 8 million to 10 million IDR range.
