BPS requests Rp1.473 trillion additional budget for 2027

The Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) has requested an additional budget of Rp1.473 trillion for its 2027 activities. BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated during a hearing with the DPR RI that the current budget allocation in the 2027 Financial Note is insufficient for optimal operations. The requested funds include Rp546 billion for management support and Rp926 billion for statistical activities, specifically to update the Cost of Living Survey. This survey aims to expand inflation reporting from 38 provinces to 514 regencies and cities across Indonesia.

Separately, BPS addressed discrepancies between its poverty data and figures released by the World Bank. BPS Social Statistics Deputy Nashrul Wajdi explained that the World Bank's projection of 64.2 percent of Indonesians living below the poverty line is based on an international standard of $8.30 per capita per day (PPP 2021) for upper-middle-income countries. This differs from the Indonesian national poverty line, which BPS reported at 8.07 percent (approximately 22.93 million people) as of March 2026. Wajdi emphasized that the two metrics are not directly comparable as they serve different purposes and use different standards.
