BPSC Exam Controller suspended over controversial remarks about students

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Examination Controller, Rajesh Kumar Singh, has been ordered to suspend following controversial remarks directed at protesting students. During a press conference addressing allegations of irregularities and paper leaks in the 70th BPSC examination, Singh used a Hindi proverb, stating, “Haathi chale bazaar, kutta bhaunke hazaar” (An elephant walks through the market while a thousand dogs bark), which was widely interpreted as likening the student protesters to dogs.

The remarks sparked significant backlash from political leaders and the public. Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, demanded an immediate apology and the official's removal, criticizing the administration's perceived arrogance toward the youth. Rohini Acharya, daughter of Lalu Prasad Yadav, also condemned the language as an insult to the self-respect of candidates and a violation of administrative dignity.

The controversy comes amid ongoing student demonstrations in Patna regarding exam transparency and repeated cancellations. Chief Minister Choudhary has reportedly ordered the suspension of the official in response to the viral video of the incident.
