BR-163 highway accident caused by falling cargo near Cascavel

A heavy piece of machinery fell from a transport truck on the BR-163 highway between Cascavel and Toledo on Thursday morning, causing a multi-vehicle accident. The detached item, a large cylindrical mechanical sweeper brush, came loose from its securing straps while the truck was transporting two pieces of heavy equipment.

A Chevrolet Cruze attempting to avoid the object veered off the road and struck an embankment, resulting in significant damage and displaced axles. The driver sustained minor injuries. A Fiat Ducato van also struck the fallen piece, though no passengers in the van were injured. The truck driver returned to the scene to assist after realizing part of the load had been lost. Federal Highway Police and concessionaire teams were deployed to manage traffic and organize detours.
