BR-277 highway traffic expected to rise during September holidays
An increase in traffic is expected on the BR-277 highway between Curitiba and the Paraná coast due to the upcoming Independence Day and Our Lady of Light holidays. The concessionaire EPR Litoral Pioneiro estimates that 164,000 vehicles will travel in both directions between September 4 and September 9, with approximately 82,000 vehicles heading toward the coast. This represents a 16% increase over normal traffic levels.
To manage the higher volume, the concessionaire has released a new two-kilometer section of a third lane in São José dos Pinhais. This expansion is part of a larger project to improve road capacity, which includes 32 kilometers of third lanes, 3.2 kilometers of marginal roads, and 15 kilometers of cycle paths. The toll system on the BR-277 is used to fund road maintenance, signaling, lighting, and safety improvements, with rates varying by vehicle category.
